LANCE

I snatched my phone out of Pike’s hand before he did any more damage to it. But to be honest, I couldn’t blame him.

“Who the fucking Christ are these assholes!?” Pike exclaimed.

“Easy,” Blade said as he nodded toward the door. “She can still hear us.”

“Well, I think she should at this point!”

“Can it,” I said flatly.

I tucked my cell into my back pocket before I ran my hands through my hair. Who the fuck were these demon spawn who had rolled up onto our turf? There was no way any of this was a coincidence. No way in hell they had come after us. We had kept a low profile. Kept our mouths shut. We sent different men to wash money every single time so that no one could nail any one of us down.

So, why the hell had these fuckers come into town in the first place?

“We’re missing something,” I said as I slid my hands down my face.

“No fucking shit,” Blade said.

“Our town isn’t safe,” Pike said, storming out of the kitchen. “They’re not safe until every single one of those motherfuckers has been eliminated.”

“Pike,” I said.

“I’m ready for war,” he said, panting for air. “I’m ready to take those motherfucks by the neck and just—”

“Pike!” Blade bellowed.

That stopped him in his tracks because Blade rarely raised his voice. “What?”

I sighed. “We need those deductive skills of yours. We have to try and get Phil back.”

He straightened his back before he held out his hand. “Give me the video.”

I pulled my phone back out. “You gonna keep a lid on it this time?”

“I make no promises.”

I tossed him the phone anyway. “Do your best.”

Pike scoffed as he opened up the video again. “Only if you let me do my worst when the time comes.”

“We’ll all get that time if we play our cards right,” I said.

“Do we even know if he’s alive?” Blade asked.

“One question at a time,” I said.

I watched Pike’s eyes as it flittered all across the screen. He replayed it once. Twice. Three separate times, and the entire time, he kept murmuring to himself. I walked over and peered over his shoulder, torturing myself with the image of Phil’s bloody, lifeless face on that screen.

If the man had survived the kind of beating it was clear he had taken, it’d take a miracle and a half to patch him back up.

“I know where he is,” Pike said, handing my phone back to me.

I snickered. “I knew you could do it.”

“Where are we headed?” Blade asked as he strode up to us.

Pike raked his hands through his hair. “It’s obvious they’re in a warehouse. Judging by the state of the ceiling when the camera tilted up that way for a split second, it’s been abandoned for a while. That narrows down where he could be. Assuming the guys are still in the area, which there’s no reason not to think that because of how quickly they can access things, that leaves four main areas where Phil could be.
